What Is Worldchefs?
Worldchefs – short for World Association of Chefs’ Societies – is the global authority on culinary professionals and education. Founded in 1928 at the Sorbonne University in Paris, the organization was built on three core values: solidarity, respect, and the preservation of culinary arts.
Since its creation, Worldchefs has united chefs from all over the world, setting standards for culinary education, professional development, and sustainability within the industry.
Building Global Culinary Standards
From the very beginning, Worldchefs recognized the importance of education and training. During an open board meeting in Havana, Cuba, the organization established the foundation for connecting international competitions with culinary learning opportunities, particularly for students.
In 2011, the Worldchefs Education Committee created the 12 Standards of Quality Culinary Education and launched the Recognition of Quality Culinary Education program. This initiative recognizes schools that provide exceptional training in culinary and pastry arts while maintaining the highest global standards.
Promoting Sustainability and Responsibility
Worldchefs also drives positive change through social and environmental initiatives. Its Feed the Planet program encourages sustainable food consumption and supports people in need through education.
In 2016, the organization introduced the Sustainability Education for Culinary Professionals curriculum – a training program that teaches chefs how to think and act sustainably while maintaining profitability in the kitchen. Delivered online during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has now trained over 1,500 culinary professionals and certified more than 50 trainers worldwide.
At HRC Culinary Academy, we are proud partners in this initiative. One of our instructors – Chef Viktorija Baltutyte-Bacheva is certified to deliver this course, helping all our students earn their Sustainability Certificates.
In 2025, Worldchefs was honored as the Most Influential Culinary Profession Development Organization and received the Sustainability Education Excellence Award from Acquisition International’s Non-Profit Organization Awards – a testament to its impact and leadership.
What Is the Worldchefs Global Culinary Certification?
The Worldchefs Global Culinary Certification is the first international benchmark for recognizing culinary professionals’ skills, knowledge, and experience. Created in collaboration with leading employers, it provides a prestigious validation framework for chefs across all sectors and career levels.
This certification applies to individuals seeking to advance their careers, schools committed to providing education that meets global standards, and employers who want to ensure their teams meet professional benchmarks. Certification matters because it helps culinary professionals gain confidence, recognition, and opportunities worldwide.
Worldchefs offers certification for every position in the classic kitchen brigade, from Commis Chef, Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, and Executive Chef to the most advanced levels – Certified Master Chef, Certified Pastry Master Chef, and Certified Culinary Educator.
At HRC Culinary Academy, we are proud to have three Certified Culinary Educators, with more team members currently working toward certification.
What Does a Certified Culinary Educator Do?
A Certified Culinary Educator (CCE) is a professional with deep industry knowledge and proven expertise in teaching, training, and developing talent. This credential recognizes individuals who combine hands-on kitchen experience with an active role in education.
How the Certification Works
The Worldchefs certification process is rigorous and transparent, ensuring credibility and consistency worldwide. It begins with an eligibility check, which includes an online assessment of core culinary skills, role-specific abilities, and professional development. The candidate’s employer then verifies their role and experience.
Next comes the documentation stage, where applicants submit personal data, a CV, and a motivation letter. This is followed by a detailed online assessment in which candidates respond to case studies and real-world scenarios that demonstrate their expertise. The evaluation focuses on both culinary and educational competencies, especially for educators and high-ranking chefs.
Why Worldchefs Certification Matters to Us
The Worldchefs Global Culinary Certification strengthens our teaching team and enhances the reputation of our academy. It builds confidence and credibility by ensuring our instructors and chefs meet international standards. It also brings professional recognition to each certified individual, acknowledging their expertise and contribution to the culinary field.
Most importantly, it improves the quality of education we provide. Certified educators raise the standard of teaching, benefiting our academy and, above all, our students. By aligning with Worldchefs, we ensure that our community is part of a global network of excellence – one that celebrates craftsmanship, lifelong learning, and sustainable culinary leadership.
