Our competition for a special scholarship of up to 4000 EUR is now open!
You can submit your application until August 31, 2016.
The theme is National Cuisine and we expect you to present a traditional dish that inspires you and represents the traditional national cuisine of the region you are coming from.
You are free to come up with your own interpretation of the selected dish and recreate it in your own way, showing your culinary skills and creativity.
The contest is organized in two parts - presenting a recipe and writing an essay.
Part I – The Recipe – forms 50% of your grade
The recipe must be presented in a way that clearly shows your own input and personal contribution. It is up to you to decide, if you want to make a video, prepare a presentation, take pictures of the development steps or find other creative ways to present your recipe as detailed as possible.
The Recipe will be graded as follows: Theme (10%), Presentation/Media (30%), Recipe/Techniques (10%), Enthusiasm/Motivation (30%) and Originality (20%).
*Hint – the video adds a lot to your presentation and since the competition is online only, it is very important to give the jury more visuals to work with.
Part II – The Essay – forms 50% of your grade
The essay should further elaborate on the National Cuisine theme and here we are more interested in the modern cuisine of your region and your own opinion, regarding the way people eat nowadays and how it is changing, comparing with the old traditions in the region.
If you like formal topics, here you have one:
“What do you think is the most distinctive feature of the modern diet in your country and which of the traditional recipes and products are still represented in the modern cuisine of your region?”
All essays, as well as the recipes must be written in English. The essay should be up to 700 words and not shorter than 350 words.
The essay will be graded as follow: Topic/ Interpretation of the given topic (10%), Personal opinion/Motivation (20%), Originality (20%) and Writing skills (50%).
To be fair, we will give you 50% for the first part and 50% for the second part. This way, no matter if you are more into writing, or more into cooking and presenting your masterpiece, you still have equal chances to get to the top.
Please, send your materials to firstname.lastname@example.org, if your files are too big, feel free to use any file transfer service convenient to you (for example - dropbox, google drive, wetransfer.com, youtube.com (just for your video), etc.).
Deadline for sending your submission is August 31, 2016 and the result will be announced with the opening of the new semester on September 12, 2016. Please make sure that you have submitted your application for the Culinary Arts degree program, as you need to do it as soon as possible, otherwise you risk missing the deadline for enrolment and respectively the chance to take advantage of the scholarship, as it can be granted to accepted students only. Both EU and Non-EU students interested in either September 2016 and March 2017 intakes are eligible to participate in the competition.
Good luck and cook your heart out!
