Launch of the ENVIRECA Project: “Greening” Apprenticeships in the HORECA Industry
ENVIRECA seeks to respond to the growing need for sustainability in the hospitality industry by promoting innovative work-based learning
17/12/2018
We are pleased to announce the launch of the ENVIRECA project – a transnational initiative dedicated to enhancing the environmental dimension of vocational education and training (VET) within the HORECA sector, which encompasses hotels, restaurants, and cafés. The project officially commenced on 1 December 2018 and is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union under Contract №2018-1-IT01-KA202-006773.
With a duration of 30 months (September 2018 – February 2021), ENVIRECA seeks to respond to the growing need for sustainability in the hospitality industry by promoting innovative work-based learning (WBL) that integrates green skills and environmentally responsible practices. The project supports the transition to greener economies by modernising apprenticeship schemes and aligning vocational training with the environmental priorities of the European Green Deal.
The core objective of ENVIRECA is to design and implement a modular curriculum and a comprehensive set of educational resources specifically tailored for WBL programmes in the HORECA industry. These materials are intended to equip learners with practical and transferable green competences that meet both current labour market demands and long-term sustainability goals.

ENVIRECA brings together a strategic partnership of organisations from five EU countries: Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Spain, and Sweden. This cross-border cooperation ensures the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and innovative approaches to vocational training that reflect both regional diversity and shared European objectives.
Through its activities, ENVIRECA aims not only to improve the quality and relevance of VET in the HORECA sector but also to support broader environmental awareness and behavioural change among learners, trainers, and employers alike.
Further information on the project outcomes will be shared through official channels as the project progresses.
