HRC Culinary Academy Welcomes Its New Class and a Rising Culinary Star

This September, we officially marked the beginning of a brand-new semester at HRC Culinary Academy, opening our doors to our latest cohort of passionate, aspiring culinary professionals.

There is unique magic that comes with the arrival of each first-semester group. They enter our kitchens with white jackets, wide eyes, and an incredible amount of enthusiasm. Some come from across the globe others are local but they all share the exact same spark: a profound love for food and a burning desire to master the craft.

Adding to the immense excitement of this new intake, we are thrilled to officially announce the winner of this year’s highly competitive HRC Culinary Academy Scholarship Competition. Navigating the nostalgic and evocative theme “Childhood Reimagined,” new Culinary Arts student Lora Blaskoff took home the top honor with an outstanding plate.

Lora took inspiration from fond memories of spending weekends at her grandmother’s house, where her childhood palate was shaped almost entirely by her grandma’s cooking. Her absolute favorite meal- traditional meatballs with zucchini and rice.

While keeping the nostalgic, comforting core flavors of the original recipe intact, Lora elevated the humble family dish into a sophisticated contemporary masterpiece. Her creation featured: traditional meatballs with apple-butter sauce, savory zucchini rings rich, crispy rice paper pillows on top of rich zucchini with rice. Having previously focused primarily on baking and pastry, Lora expressed immense enthusiasm for expanding her horizons into savory cuisine, mastering business operations to eventually open a family bakery with her father, and diving into HRC’s world-class international internships. This is always our favorite milestone. We get to witness the very first, foundational steps of journeys just like Lora’s.
