On November 15, the Class of 2024 of HRC Culinary Academy marked the culmination of their academic culinary journeys with a graduation ceremony. Hosted by the ever-charismatic Chef Viktorija Baltutyte, the event was filled with laughter, heartfelt moments, and a shared sense of achievement. With her trademark humor and engaging presence, Chef Viktorija ensured the event was not only memorable but also perfectly reflective of the unique spirit of HRC.
Held amidst an elegant theme of black and gold, the ceremony brought together friends, family, alumni, and distinguished guests like Mr. Frederik den Hollander, President of HRC Academy, and Mr. Arie van der Spek, President of the HRC Academic Board.
The official ceremony began with a warm and welcoming speech by the academy’s director, Yoana Mileva. Her words set the tone for the evening, celebrating the graduates’ achievements and the vibrant community that supported them throughout their studies. This was followed by an inspiring address from Mr. Arie van der Spek, who shared wisdom and encouragement with the graduates, urging them to continue their culinary pursuits with passion and dedication.
In true HRC fashion, the graduates didn’t just receive their diplomas—they earned them through a final test of skill and knowledge. First, they tackled a theory test that revisited questions from their very first lectures at the academy, bringing their journey full circle. Then, the practical test added a fun twist: a blindfolded cupcake-icing challenge that left everyone in high spirits.
Adding to the heartfelt atmosphere, Chef Viktor Svetoslavov read aloud A Letter to a Young Culinarian by Chef Mark Mendez. The letter’s timeless advice resonated with the graduates, urging them to remain curious, humble, and passionate as they embark on their professional journeys.
A highlight of the evening was a Q&A session with successful alumni Angel Vasilev from MIAM and Ivan Stanev from Sladko. They shared personal stories about their professional paths, reflecting on how the academy prepared them for the challenges and triumphs of the culinary world.
The formal part of the ceremony concluded with the graduates officially receiving their diplomas. The celebration then transitioned into a lively cocktail reception, featuring catering by MIAM and Sladko as well as special bites prepared by the academy’s talented third-semester students. It was a fitting end to a night dedicated to culinary excellence, camaraderie, and growth.
As the graduates of 2024 embark on the next chapter of their lives, we wish them endless success and growth. They have the skills, creativity, and resilience to make their mark on the culinary world, and we eagerly await the incredible achievements that lie ahead. Congratulations, Class of 2024!
