Angela Boeva: Bringing Balkan Stories to Life Through Food

When it comes to using food as a bridge between cultures and memories, Angela Boeva is a master. A graduate of HRC Culinary Academy and a top finalist at the 2020 Global Young Chef Olympiad, Angela has built a unique culinary style that goes far beyond taste. Her project, “Sofrà,” is a love letter to her Balkan heritage, blending community, curiosity, and the joy of shared meals. Through seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients and traditional Balkan flavors, she crafts dishes that honor her roots while also celebrating sustainability and innovation.

Masterclass on Storytelling Through Food

Though she currently works in London as a senior sous chef at Wild by Tart, Angela recently made a special trip back to Bulgaria to inspire HRC’s first semester students. On October 24th, she led a masterclass focused on the art of storytelling through food. Angela encouraged students to think beyond flavors and techniques, highlighting how a dish can evoke memories, create connections, and even tell a story. She challenged them to work in teams to create and present a dish, using storytelling as their main tool. For Angela, food isn’t just about what’s on the plate—it’s a way to share a piece of who you are.

A Night to Remember: “Sofrà: Untold Stories of the Balkans”

Later that evening, Angela brought her storytelling philosophy to life with a special dinner at HRC’s training restaurant Talents, themed “Sofrà: Untold Stories of the Balkans.” The intimate event featured a five-course menu inspired by her own childhood memories and meaningful moments. Seated around a long, communal table, guests were encouraged to connect with each other as they experienced the flavors of Angela’s past, reimagined with a modern twist. With help of HRC’s third semester students, Angela created a cozy and immersive atmosphere, making it a truly unforgettable evening for everyone involved.
